ACLU of Washington

Community Relations Spotlight

Published: May 30, 2025

We kicked off 2025 by joining with community partners to bring our power and resources to Olympia for Advocacy Day. Looking ahead, ACLU-WA will be supporting celebrations that honor and recognize the history and pride of marginalized communities across the state.

Celebrations remind us who and what we are fighting for. They are vital to keeping all of us connected and strong in chaotic times. Check out the list below for events near you. We hope to see you there!

Advocacy Day 2025

In February, the ACLU of Washington joined together with 18 community organizations to rally on the Capitol steps in Olympia and meet with lawmakers to advocate for a variety of criminal legal system reform bills.

This was the second Advocacy Day co-hosted with community partners. Over 180 advocates joined us in Olympia and together we met with over 60 lawmakers.

Celebrating Community, Free Expression, and Knowing Our Rights

Cascade PBS Ideas Festival

On May 31, the ACLU-WA set up an information and photo booth at the Cascade PBS Ideas Festival, which brings together journalists, newsmakers, and innovators from around the country to talk about the issues that are animating our cultural conversations.

Juneteenth

We will be hosting booths at the Vancouver Juneteenth celebration on June 14 and at the Juneteenth – Road to Economic Freedom 2025 celebration in Tacoma on June 19 to offer information about voting rights and other Know-Your-Rights materials.

Pride

The summer will be packed with 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride events throughout Washington. The ACLU-WA will host booths at the following Pride festivals, leading with our theme of "Resilient. Together.":

  • June 14: Spokane Pride

  • June 27: Trans Pride Seattle Pride

  • August 23: PNW Black Pride

We will also be gathering a contingent for the Seattle Pride Parade on June 29. Be on the lookout for a call for volunteers in June.

Know Your Rights Trainings

Since the start of the year, ACLU-WA staff and volunteer attorneys have held close to 30 Know Your Rights trainings across Washington. Recently, ACLU-WA collaborated with Transmasc Seattle on an educational webinar for trans and gender-expansive Washingtonians. Transmasc Seattle creates community spaces by and for transmasculine folx in the Seattle area.

In addition to the rights of trans and queer Washingtonians, staff have been responding to requests for immigrant rights and protest rights presentations.
