The Second Chances Project is part of a multidisciplinary collaboration across the Legal Department and Smart Justice campaign to significantly reduce the number of people in contact with the criminal justice system including front end reforms, systems reform and reentry work.

The ACLU filed a friend-of-the-court brief protecting the rights of someone who sought to be legally designated as a de facto parent – one who has been found by the court to have assumed the role of a parent for a substantial period of time.
