The American Civil Liberties Union is troubled by recent media reports claiming that telephone companies have regularly shared consumer telephone records with the National Security Agency without legal authority. If true, these companies have seriously violated the privacy of their customers by disclosing information that reveals their associations, interests and a host of personal details about their lives.

The ACLU of Washington wishes to comment on the recent news that the Lake Stevens School District may require drug tests for all students enrolled in school-sponsored extracurricular activities, even where there are no grounds to suspect that the individual students being tested are abusing drugs.

King County Superior Court ruled that the state may not keep ex-felons from voting, just because of having unpaid legal financial obligations.
