News Release:
Tuesday, April 8, 2025SEATTLE – As part of a wave of student visa revocations across the country, multiple students at institutions in Washington have had their visas revoked without notice or justification. Revocations in Washington state have been discovered by officials at the University of Washington and at Gonzaga University in Spokane.
ACLU-WA Legal Director La Rond Baker had this reaction:
"The Trump administration’s sudden revocation, without any stated justification, of student visas and student status at the UW and universities nationwide violates due process principles and is an attack on international students and scholars who contribute critical perspectives to our academic communities. The University of Washington is right to offer these students support, and we urge other colleges to do the same. Universities have a responsibility to do whatever they can to protect their students and staff from the Trump administration’s wide array of attempts to abuse immigration law and deport students. No president should be allowed to set an ideological litmus test and exclude or remove people from our country who they disagree with."
